Ustadh John grew up in the Bay Area, California where he lived until college. He attended St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, majoring in Philosophy and the History of Math and Science. During his Junior year, he converted to Islam. After graduation, he enrolled at Zaytuna College in Berkeley, CA and completed Zaytuna's B.A. program in Islamic Theology and Jurisprudence in three years, graduating in May of 2016. Currently, he lives with his wife in Vienna, Virginia. He is continuing his Arabic and Islamic studies privately and through Advanced Arabic Courses at Fawakih. He serves as an instructor and teaching assistant for the DC-American Islamic Heritage Museum Chapter.
