Shaykh Abu Bakr became Hafiz Al-Quran at the age of 17. He completed his primary education in
Algeria
and received formal training in memorization at the Quran
school
of
Sidi Abdur Rahman
. In order to continue his Islamic education he traveled to
Syria
in 1990 where he studied at the Hasaka Institute and received a Bachelors Degree in Shariah. While in
Damascus
, he studied under Dr. Mustafa Deeb Bugha and Shaykh Ramadan Buti. In 1997 he returned to
Algeria
where he taught and delivered khutab at Masjid Haqq alongside Shaykh Tewfiq Choukri. From 2000 to 2007, he delivered khutab and ran a memorization school for 200 students at Uthman ibn Affan Mosque in
Algiers
. Each year, his school produced approximately 7 huffaz. Since then, he has been residing in
Indianapolis
,
Indiana
with his wife. He currently runs a program for approximately 50 students in which he continues in the traditional method of teaching Quranic memorization through writing.
