Overview of Methodology
Unique Approach: The Fawakih Curriculum Team has worked hard surveying students and instructors alike to create a unique and innovative approach to learning the Arabic language and the Quran. We feel that learning the language intimately with the Quranic application will give the students the fruits of their linguistic study hand in hand with the effort.
Dynamic Learning: We are experimenting with a number of ways to enhance the student-teacher and student-student relationship and experience. We hope these will augment the strong curriculum to give a high quality learning environment.
-
Online Student Forum: This online resource will provide interaction between students in the form of chat, discussion boards, and personalized profiles. The objective of this function is to build a virtual learning community for students and to allow for teachers and administrators to post announcements and learning material.
-
Discussion-based lectures: The Fawakih Intensive has been working with instructors to ensure the program allows for in-class interaction and discussion. Students will be given ample opportunity to free to discuss, analyze, and question material presented. We feel that students have much to provide to the discourse and that their input is vital to the success of the class. One of the ways in which we are tangibly attempting to facilitate this is by having name cards for each student to place on their desks. This will encourage participation and interaction.
-
Small group learning: In addition to the core courses, focus groups will be formed to customize learning and address the diverse levels and needs of the students. This approach will afford students with special academic interests an opportunity to design a curriculum which then will be taught by an appropriate instructor.
-
Private lessons, Tutoring, and Office hours: The instructors and teaching assistants will be allocating time for private lessons, tutoring sessions, and open office hours, giving students adequate resources to keep up with the fast pace of the program.
-
Closed-circle learning: Input and output are needed for proper understanding. Alongside the high quality classes students will experience by our skilled instructors, the Fawakih students will be required to "give back" in the form of presentations and summaries. These sessions will include individual and group presentations on issues revolving around material covered in the classes. This will allow students to review the material and translate their knowledge into learning.
We are constantly evolving and improving our curriculum, we highly seek out your feedback and input. Be assured your comments will be taken seriously and the Fawakih Curriculum Team will try to incorporate them into the program as quickly as possible. academics@fawakih.com
